What’s the problem?
As a data strategist, there is something incredibly romantic about the book and the movie Moneyball. Candidly, I still get weepy at the end when Billy hears his daughter singing on the car tape player.
I love the scene in the movie (sadly, it was contrived for the movie) where all of the scouts are talking about the prospects that need to fill Jason Giambi’s position. They talk about look, feel, and potential. Billy seeks to address something deeper. He wants them to understand the Oakland Athletics “Pain Point.”
Small market team with a small market budget trying to compete with the Yankees and other high income teams.
The problem wasn’t losing Giambi. It was something greater. And it’s the kind of problem business owners and leaders face all the time. And just like in the movie, it can be hard to get team members on board with what really is creating the challenges.
That’s why we turn to data, just like Billy did, to find solutions to generate wins.
Someone still has to hit the ball. Someone still has to catch it. But, an agnostic partner like Victory Solutions can help you field the right team.
